A farewell to Arc

The Browser Company announces Arc will be sunset on December 22, 2026, saying the growing work of keeping a browser secure in the age of AI means its engineering and security teams will focus solely on Dia, its newer browser built to today’s security standards.

We’ve decided to sunset Arc on December 22, 2026

That’s not an easy sentence to write. We spent years building Arc and celebrating each and every release along the way: we have so much pride and love for what we made alongside the Arc community.

Our priority is to deliver best-in-class security for our members. Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI. Dia, our new browser, was built from the ground up to meet today’s security standards, so that’s where our engineering and security teams will focus moving forward.

We’ve worked to make switching to Dia as easy as possible for Arc members. Here’s how:

  • Your passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history come over to Dia seamlessly.
  • Spaces, Folders, and Tab Groups are in Dia and import over with your data intact.
  • Dia now surpasses Arc benchmarks in stability, speed, and security.

The browser features you use in Arc are free in Dia, and the AI is optional.

Thank you for using Arc, for pushing us to make it better, and for building alongside us. The team that made Arc is the same team behind Dia, and some of our most ambitious work is just ahead. We’d love for you to be there with us when it lands.

Timeline

  • October 22: New Arc accounts can no longer be created. For existing Arc members, nothing will change yet. The latest version of Arc adds an option to export all of your data out of Arc, and an even smoother import into Dia.
  • November 23: On iOS and Android, Browse for Me and other AI features will be disabled. Arc Search will continue working as a browser, but you will no longer be able to sign in or sync your tabs.
  • December 22: You will no longer be able to access or use Arc on macOS or Windows. Arc accounts will be deactivated, with their personal data deleted within 30 days. Arc Search for Android will be pulled from the Google Play Store.

Questions

When will I no longer be able to use Arc?

Arc for macOS and Windows will remain available until December 22, 2026. Until then, Arc will continue to work as usual and will receive basic updates.

On December 22, 2026, Arc for macOS and Windows will stop working, and you will no longer be able to sign in to your Arc account.

As of October 22, 2026, new Arc accounts can no longer be created. Existing accounts are not affected by this change.

What is replacing Arc?

Dia is replacing Arc. It’s the new browser from the team that built Arc, and it keeps the Arc features you rely on, like vertical tabs in the Sidebar, Spaces (now called Profiles), Pinned Tabs, Folders, and Split View. You can bring your Arc data (passwords, extensions, profiles, tabs) over in a few clicks, and Dia is free to download for macOS and Windows.
